Introducting SNAP

The goal of understanding our number is to develop self-knowledge and learn how to recognize and relax our grip on the reflexive, self-defeating behaviors of our personalities. As we do, we can live more authentically and relate to others in wiser, more loving ways.

Stop. To stop, take four or five deep, prayerful breaths to ground yourself in your body and return to the present moment. If time and circumstances allow, close your eyes and scan your body from the crown of your head down to the tip of your toes. Soften any tension you encounter along the way by breathing into it. The purpose of this step is simply to wake up and bring your awareness back to your immediate experience.

Notice. Often we get swept up in the rushing river of our daily activities and habitual reactive behaviors, but rarely do we step back to observe and learn from them. Once we’ve come to a full stop, let’s look around to see what we’ve been missing while we were lost in our looping thoughts or absorbed in our work. So, what’s going on? Is the environment around us calm or chaotic? How are we related to what’s going on? How are other people responding to us? Are we personally in a good space, or are we caught up in the default, reactive behaviors of our number?

Whatever you discover, make sure as you notice or observe what you’re feeling, thinking and doing in the moment that you do so with kindness! No labeling, analyzing, criticizing or trying to fix anything. Simply notice, nothing else.

Ask. Now that you’re spiritually awake and present to what’s happening in the moment, you can ask yourself a few questions that will help get you back on track if you need it.

  • What am I believing right now?
  • How does it make me feel?
  • Is it true?
  • Who would I be if I let go of that belief?

Pivot. In the Pivot stage, we can consciously choose to throw aside the usual scripts we follow.

What SNAP does is help wake us up. It interrupts the circuit on the hurtful, self-limiting thoughts, feelings and actions associated with our number and allows us to make different choices. Is it going to change your life overnight? No. But over time, it will move the needle in your self-awareness.
